Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme (KCGCDS)
The scheme incorporates four awards: Puppy foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Each level involves a gradual development of the basic exercises that are included in daily life situations. Each level requires a slightly higher level of understanding of your dog and its training.
They consist of simple tests which are designed to ensure that your dog learns the type of obedience exercises and behaviour that will ensure it is a pleasure to own. It also provides guidance on the knowledge an owner should possess to understand their dog and their responsibilities of owning a dog.
KCGCDS tests are an opportunity for both those already within the club and those who do not wish to attend regular training classes but would like to get a rosette and certificate with their dog. Also ideal for those with competitive Breed dogs for the KCGCDS Breed classes.

Puppy Foundation
The Puppy Foundation is for all dogs aged under 12 months.
It incorporates basic training skills and socialisation. On successful completion the puppy will know to respond to its owner who in turn will have a better understanding of their responsibilities.
Exercises include play with your dog which can be used to aid training, responsibility and care, response to name, socialisation, walk in a controlled manner and recall.
A puppy must attend a minimum of 4 training sessions to be awarded the certificate as this is an ongoing assessment not a final test.

Very basic requirements to ensure you dog is a good member of society, able to walk and behave in a controlled manner on the lead, allow the handler to groom and inspect and stay in one place. The bronze award aims to provide the handler with the basic knowledge of understanding and training their dog.

To take the Silver KCGCDS dogs must have already passed the KCGCDS Bronze award.
It builds upon the skills learned for the bronze whilst slightly increasing the level of difficulty. The silver is a natural progression of training skills introducing new concepts such as a controlled greeting, road walk and vehicle control.
